The right location can affect the performance of peppers. Choose a sunny, well-drained spot where peppers haven't grown recently.
The soil should be deep, rich and loamy. If it isn't, top it off with about 1 inch of compost.
Avoid adding too much nitrogen to the soil. Excess nitrogen can cause pepper plants to grow too quickly, making them more susceptible to disease and less productive.
